About The Barrier Buster!

DESCRIPTION:

The workforce system has been using the same old approaches to eliminating barriers to employment for a long time. The problem is that today’s barriers are more numerous, resistant and deeper and they do not respond well to these outdated approaches. This workshop is for managers and staff of all kinds of workforce programs serving any type of job seeker that want new and more effective ways to eliminate barriers to employment. This session is literally packed with new strategies that will make your work so much more effective and your program participants more successful. Here are just a few of the highlights from the workshop:

  • Find out why focusing on the barrier as an obstacle to employment may not be the best strategy. People may have mixed feelings about going to work so focusing on overcoming the barrier as something that will help with employment may not be the strongest motivator. But everyone loves something or someone. This webinar will show you how to shift the focus of your counseling from the impact of the barrier on employment, to the impact of the barrier on what the person loves. When you trigger the powerful connection between the barrier and what they love and tie that to what work can give them, you can stimulate their interest in overcoming that obstacle which will strengthen their connection with what they love and increase their interest in going to work.
  • It can be very difficult for people to bring up certain barriers that they find hard to talk about. Those barriers can remain hidden and sabotage employment progress. This webinar will introduce you to the powerful technique of Proactive Barrier Conversations which make it possible for you to help people feel comfortable discussing their hidden barriers to employment with you. Now you can get to the rest of the iceberg of the issues that are blocking employment progress. When these issues are brought to the surface, you can help the person work on them much earlier in the counseling process. This will both strengthen the relationship between the two of you and help the individual break through those hidden barriers in less time than ever.
  • Discover how to use role models, videos, pictures and story telling as barrier removal strategies. Find out how to go from just taking about barriers to showing people how others have overcome these roadblocks to employment progress. This will help to fight the tendency that people have to believe that their barriers are things that only apply to them and that the barriers are insurmountable. The webinar will give you new tools to help people rethink their attitudes towards the things that hold them back from improving their lives.
  • Find out how to take a strengths based approach to barrier removal where you link people’s strengths to the removing the barrier and you can help them believe they can successfully take on the challenge. Learn how to do a Strengths History Assessment to help people feel the power they have to change things in their lives for the better. Help people summon their resiliency and use the strengths they have shown in the past to make their future better.

These are just a few of the many new ways of working you will learn in this webinar. You will leave this webinar with a whole new toolbox of strategiesfor helping people get closer to employment success in less time.
